The funeral service was understandably a somber event, but Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo shared that there were also some light-hearted moments. In a recent conversation, he reflected on the service, saying, “It was very sad, but some of the speeches were pretty funny. There were a lot of tears.”
Trujillo noted that the weather was unpredictable during the service. It started to rain, and at one point, Kelly Osbourne was singing with the lyrics in front of her. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew the lyrics away. Trujillo joked, “It was almost like Ozzy was having fun with her.”
He also remembered Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler giving a eulogy. Geezer struggled at first and had to sit down after breaking down in tears. However, during his second attempt to speak, something amazing happened. “When Geezer spoke, the sun came out,” Trujillo said. “I’m not kidding. The sun actually came out, and it was beautiful from that moment on — a very magical moment.”
Trujillo has a long history with Ozzy Osbourne. Before joining Metallica in 2003, he was the touring bassist for Ozzy starting in 1996. He also played on two of Ozzy’s albums: 2001’s *Down to Earth* and 2022’s *Patient Number 9*.
Overall, the service was a mix of sadness and celebration, filled with memories and moments that honored a legendary figure in rock music.
