Dave Grohl took the stage with Chevy Metal on August 31 at The Canyon in Agoura Hills for a special night honoring Taylor Hawkins. The event brought together rock legends to celebrate the late drummer, who passed away in 2022.
Grohl kicked off the night with Lee Ving from the punk band Fear, performing their classic track “Beef Bologna.” This wasn’t the first time Grohl played with Chevy Metal, the cover band that Hawkins started. Taylor’s son, Shane Hawkins, played drums, while Wiley Hodgen handled the bass guitar and Brent Woods played lead guitar. The concert also raised funds for animal rescue through the Eastwood Ranch Foundation.
The highlight of the night came when KISS bassist Gene Simmons joined the band. He rocked out with KISS hits “Deuce” and “Rock And Roll All Nite,” before finishing with Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades,” featuring his daughter Sophie Tweed-Simmons on vocals.
Elliot Easton from The Cars played three fan favorites: “Just What I Needed,” “Candy-O,” and “Let the Good Times Roll.” Scott Ian from Anthrax followed with some Black Sabbath covers, joined by his son Revel and wife Pearl Aday for a special rendition of “Sweet Leaf.”
Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach performed four songs, including “Mountain Song” with Stephen Perkins from Jane’s Addiction, Ozzy’s “Crazy Train,” and a raw version of Skid Row’s “18 and Life.”
The night kicked off with Rush’s “Working Man” and featured a 21-song setlist that spanned rock history, including tracks from Talking Heads, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen.
Looking ahead, Grohl and the Foo Fighters are set to tour Asia in October 2025, alongside Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin. Fans can look out for tickets soon!
