This Day in Rock History: October 12

Over the years, October 12 has been a big day in rock history for many legends like Blondie, Fleetwood Mac, and Little Richard. Here are some key events that happened on this day.

In 1957, after a scary plane incident where his flight caught fire, Little Richard decided to quit rock ‘n’ roll during his Australian tour. He returned to music about five years later.

Fast forward to 1996, when The Rolling Stones released the concert film “The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus.” This film was actually shot back in December 1968 and featured performances from the band, along with The Who, Jethro Tull, and a supergroup that included John Lennon and Eric Clapton.

October 12 is also special for Blondie fans. In 1974, Debbie Harry, Chris Stein, Fred Smith, and Billy O’Connor played their first show as Blondie at CBGB in New York City. They originally called themselves Angel and the Snake but changed their name after a few gigs.

In 1979, Fleetwood Mac released their 12th studio album, “Tusk,” through Warner Bros. Records. While it didn’t reach the same heights as their previous album “Rumors,” it still sold around 4 million copies worldwide.

Then in 1988, Poison dropped their biggest hit, “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” from the album “Open Up and Say… Ahh!” This song became their only No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, staying at the top for three weeks.

From a rock pioneer almost quitting to hair metal legends scoring a major hit, October 12 has seen some memorable moments in rock history. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
