Megadeth is set to release a documentary titled *Megadeth: Behind the Mask* on January 22, 2026. The film will be shown in over 1,000 theaters across more than 35 countries. Fans will get an exclusive first listen to the band’s self-titled final studio album a day early, on January 22, before its official release on January 23.
The documentary features a 40-year retrospective interview with frontman Dave Mustaine. He will discuss each track on the new album and share stories from the band’s incredible journey. Mustaine expressed his excitement in a press release, saying, “This listening event is going to be amazing. I can’t wait to share it with thousands of my closest friends around the world. I have so much gratitude for everyone who helped bring this film to life, especially you, the fans! Now let’s fire this up… and pass the popcorn!”
Dave Mustaine formed Megadeth in 1983 after leaving Metallica. The band released its first album, *Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!*, in 1985. Their 1992 album, *Countdown to Extinction*, went double Platinum and helped them reach a wider audience.
In August, the band announced that this upcoming release will be their final studio album. Mustaine also shared plans for a farewell tour that will last three to five years. Two singles from the new album, “I Don’t Care” and “Tipping Point,” have already been released. There’s also a bonus track covering Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning,” which Mustaine co-wrote.
The current lineup includes Mustaine, guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, bassist James LoMenzo, and drummer Dirk Verbeuren. Over their four-decade career, Megadeth has sold 50 million records and won a Grammy Award. Fans can look forward to this exciting new chapter in Megadeth’s legacy!
