Deftones have received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Rock Album for their latest release, *Private Music*. This recognition comes more than 30 years after the band first formed.
Lead singer Chino Moreno shared insights about the band’s creative process. He explained that Deftones aims to stand out from other bands that emerged in the 1990s and early 2000s. “We always try to do things a little left of center from the types of records that we started making,” he said. He pointed to their 2000 album, *White Pony*, as a key moment in their musical evolution. “I always felt like I just want to stand on our own two feet in some way the most we can,” he added.
Critics have praised *Private Music*, noting that it showcases a band that has refined its sound while exploring new directions. Chino also revealed that he still feels nervous before going on stage. “Every time before I go on stage, I’m still nervous,” he admitted. “I think there may be something healthy about that.”
*White Pony* marked a significant shift in the band’s musical approach, influencing how they create albums today. During a recent talk, Chino opened up about his struggles with shyness and how Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran has inspired their work.
The GRAMMY Awards ceremony is set to take place later this year, where Deftones will compete against other nominees for Best Rock Album. Fans are excited to see how they fare!
