Korn is taking their time with their 15th studio album. Instead of rushing into the studio, the band wants to focus on touring and performing live shows. Guitarist Brian “Head” Welch shared that since he rejoined the band in 2013, they’ve been releasing albums every two to three years. He prefers a longer break between albums.
“I really love the fact that it’s taking a long time,” Welch said. “We’re so addicted to the studio that we end up putting out albums quickly. I love that there’s been delays this time.”
Right now, new music isn’t their main focus. Welch pointed out that Korn has a huge catalog of well-known songs to draw from. “We’re a fortunate band. We’ve been around for a while, and we’re focusing on our live show. It feels like we don’t even need a new album,” he explained. “But that doesn’t mean we won’t find time to create more music. It’s just not a priority right now.”
The band plans to meet soon to review what they’ve been working on. Welch hinted at some exciting surprises coming this year. “We’re going to meet together and see where we’re at. There could be a couple of surprises this year. We’ll have some cool announcements for dates around the world,” he said.
Welch was promoting a track by Zahna, which features his guest work. He signed Zahna to his label, XOVR Records, last year.
Korn will perform at Sick New World in Las Vegas on April 25. Their South American tour kicks off on May 2 in Bogotá, Colombia, followed by shows in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. They’ll wrap up their Latin American dates with a show in Mexico City on May 19.
