This Day in Rock History: October 22

On this day in rock history, 1988 saw Pearl Jam make their live debut. The band played their first show under the name Mookie Blaylock. Fans got an early look at songs that would later define grunge.

In 1966, “Good Vibrations” climbed the charts. The Beach Boys’ hit stood out for its strange sounds and rich harmonies. It quickly became one of their biggest singles.

A few notable albums also arrived on this date. In 1971, The Rolling Stones released an album that pushed their sound forward. The record mixed blues and rock with sharp songwriting. In 1994, Nirvana had already changed the scene, and albums from that era continued to influence new bands. These releases kept rock fans talking and inspired many up-and-coming acts.

Today’s anniversaries remind us how one show, one song, or one album can shift the music world. Fans still go to shows hoping to see moments that matter. Bands still chase the songs that stick with us for decades. Keep an eye on tour dates and reissues—history often returns to the stage and the shelves.
