Dave Grohl and his daughter, Violet, performed their cover of X’s “Nausea” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night (April 27.)

Embedded below, the Grohls were joined by one hell of a backing band that featured bassist Krist Novoselic, drummer Dave Lombardo and producer Greg Kurstin.

Dave and Violet released their cover last week. The song is featured in Dave’s new documentary, What Drives Us, which premieres on The Coda Collection in the United States and via Amazon Prime in select global markets on April 30.

So, why did Dave pick this song to record with his daughter? He recounts the story in detail on his Instagram (which you should read in full, because it’s really interesting) but it boils down to this: Dave discovered via his grandmother, whose maiden name is Bonebrake, that he is actually a distant cousin of X drummer D.J. Bonebrake. Following a screening of his new documentary What Drives Us, he got the idea to record “Nausea” with Violet.

“I wanted to record a song that would not only pay tribute to the people and music that influenced me to become a musician, but also to pay tribute to my long family history,” writes Grohl. “So, what better song than an X song? And what better person to sing it than my daughter, Violet Grohl.”

Dave also sat down with Kimmel and talked about What Drives Us and recording with his daughter. The charming and very funny conversation can be viewed below.
