Robert Smith of The Cure hits Hot 100 with his first solo appearance, featuring Olivia Rodrigo in a collaboration.

Robert Smith, the frontman of The Cure, has made his debut on the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist, thanks to his collaboration with Olivia Rodrigo. Their song, “what’s wrong with me,” has entered the chart at #17. This is a significant milestone for Smith, as it marks his first appearance on the all-genre chart under his own name. While The Cure has had 14 entries on the Hot 100, with their highest being “Lovesong” at #2 in 1989, this new track is Smith’s second-highest charting hit overall, sitting between “Lovesong” and “Friday I’m in Love,” which reached #18 in 1992.

“What’s wrong with me” is featured on Rodrigo’s latest album, titled you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. The album also includes a track called “the cure.” This collaboration follows their live performance together at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival. Although Rodrigo is a big fan of Smith and The Cure, they will not be performing at her upcoming Daisy Chain Fields festival in August, which will showcase only women and female-fronted bands. However, the festival will feature several iconic alternative bands, including Garbage, The Breeders, and Bikini Kill.
