The Smashing Pumpkins are back in the studio with producer Butch Vig for a new single. Billy Corgan shared the news on Instagram, saying it’s the first time they’ve worked with Vig since their iconic 1993 album, Siamese Dream. Corgan expressed excitement about recording with guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, calling it an awesome experience.
In a video on his Substack, Corgan revealed that the new song, which is still unnamed, will be released later in 2026 and was created for a specific purpose. Butch Vig is well-known for producing Siamese Dream and the band’s debut album, Gish, as well as Nirvana’s legendary album, Nevermind.
In addition to this new music, the Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating their 1995 album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, by performing it in full during their upcoming U.S. Rats in a Cage tour. The tour starts in September and will also include a second set featuring songs from their entire career.
