This Day in Top 40 History: June 18

June has seen many significant moments in music, and June 18 is no different. This day has witnessed hit songs, cultural changes, and challenges that have shaped the music we know today.

In 1977, Fleetwood Mac scored their only hit with a song from their famous album, Rumours, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Fast forward to 2002, Wyclef Jean released his third album, Masquerade, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, featuring a Top 30 single. In 2005, Mariah Carey debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a song that held the top spot for an impressive 14 weeks.

2010 was a big year, with Sia releasing her fifth studio album, We Are Born, which included popular tracks but didn’t make the Top 40 in the U.K. That same year, Eminem dropped Recovery, featuring stars like Rihanna and Lil Wayne. The album debuted at No. 1 and sold over 741,000 copies in its first week, producing two No. 1 hits.

June 18 also marks some cultural milestones. Paul McCartney was born in 1942 in Liverpool, and his childhood home is now a museum. Blake Shelton, born in 1976, has topped Billboard’s Country Airplay Charts with 30 hits and is an eight-time GRAMMY nominee. In 1985, Weird Al Yankovic released Dare to Be Stupid, the first comedy music album on Compact Disc. Josh Dun of Twenty One Pilots was born in 1988, and in 1994, Takeoff of Migos was born in Georgia. These events highlight the rich history of music on this day.
