Ever wished you could walk a friend or bandmate all the way to their gate? That could be coming back to some U.S. airports.
The TSA is testing a plan that would let travelers be escorted past security to the gate. Right now most airports stop visitors at security checkpoints. But the change could let people say goodbye in the terminal, not in the crowded line.
The pilot program focuses on helping people who need extra support. Think older fans, people with disabilities, or anyone carrying heavy gear. Airports would set rules to keep things safe. Escorts would go through background checks and follow security steps.
For touring musicians, this could be huge. You could see your crew off, help them with instruments, or hug a friend before they fly. It would make the airport feel less cold and more like the road — a place for real goodbyes.
This isn’t nationwide yet. Airports will join the pilot over time. Local rules will decide how it works at each airport. If it goes well, more airports might adopt it.
It’s a small change. But for music people who travel a lot, it could mean fewer rushed goodbyes and more time to say, “See you on the next tour.”
