Sharon Osbourne Discusses Ozzy’s Response to “Back to the Beginning” Event’s Earnings

Sharon Osbourne has not yet released a statement following the passing of her husband, Ozzy Osbourne. However, just days before his death, she gave an interview on July 17. The interview was initially held back but was published in full on August 5.

In the interview, Sharon talked about the successful “Back To The Beginning” event, where Ozzy performed for the last time as a solo artist and as the lead singer of Black Sabbath. When asked if Ozzy was happy with the event, Sharon shared, “He turned around and said to me that night, ‘I had no idea that so many people liked me.’ … Ozzy’s always been in his own bubble.”

Sharon also addressed the reports claiming the event raised over $190 million. Tom Morello, who was the musical director for “Back To The Beginning,” posted on Instagram that the concert had indeed raised that amount. A week later, it was reported that this made it the highest-grossing charity concert in history.

However, Sharon disputed these figures, saying, “One of the things that’s frightening me is all this false press about [how] we’ve made $140 million. I wish we could have, for one gig. It’s just ridiculous.” She expressed confusion over the varying reports, noting that even major outlets like Billboard had published these numbers.

When asked about the actual gross from the event, Sharon explained that it would take time to finalize the figures. She mentioned, “It takes a really long time because we have all the bands’ expenses to consider. It’ll be another four weeks before we have the final number.”
