The Joe Perry Project kicked off its North American tour in Tampa on August 13. This marks Joe Perry’s first major shows since Aerosmith announced their farewell in 2024. Recently, Perry appeared on Rick Beato’s podcast, where he discussed Van Halen’s debut album. He said, “That first record was stunning. They took a lot of old tricks we all used and turned it up to 11.”
Brad Whitford, who is now playing with The Joe Perry Project, also shared his thoughts on Eddie Van Halen’s talent. He compared Eddie to Jeff Beck, saying, “He was on this other stratosphere. Just out of reach.”
The band features Robinson from the Black Crowes on vocals, Robert DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots on bass, and Buck Johnson on keyboards, who is known from Aerosmith tours. Jason Sutter is the drummer, stepping in after Eric Kretz left the tour for family reasons.
Whitford recalled memories sparked by Alex Van Halen’s book, saying, “They’d start at dawn, playing together until noon every day. Listen to those albums — you’ll hear how tight they were. Pure power when they played.”
The next stop for The Joe Perry Project is Hollywood, Florida. After that, they will join The Who at Boston’s Fenway Park on August 26 and perform at the Hollywood Bowl on September 17. For more details and to buy tickets, check out their official site.
