AC/DC Keeps the Energy High with Their Power Up Tour

AC/DC rocked Morumbi Stadium in São Paulo on February 24, marking their first show in Brazil in 17 years. The Australian rock legends kicked off the new leg of their Power Up Tour, with three sold-out dates on February 22, 28, and March 4. They played a thrilling 22-song set to a crowd of 72,000 fans, featuring classics like “Back in Black.”

Guitarist Angus Young, 70, led the performance in his iconic school uniform, while vocalist Brian Johnson belted out many hits from the 1970s and 1980s. The Pretty Reckless, fronted by Taylor Momsen, opened the show with a solid 10-song set. This was the American band’s first tour in Brazil in several years.

The current lineup includes Matt Laug on drums, Chris Chaney on bass, and Stevie Young on guitar, who is 69 years old. This tour is especially significant as it’s the first since the passing of guitarist Malcolm Young in 2017 due to Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The concert featured impressive visuals, including screens with images and the giant bell for “Hells Bells.” Stacked amplifiers lined the stage as AC/DC delivered a two-hour performance filled with thunderous riffs and explosive pyrotechnics.

AC/DC began their journey in 1973 when Scottish brothers Malcolm and Angus Young decided to make music together. They quickly gained fame, touring Europe and opening for bands like Black Sabbath and Aerosmith. With over 50 million copies sold, their 1980 album, Back in Black, remains the best-selling album by a band and the third best-selling album in history. The Power Up Tour is named after their 2020 album, featuring tracks that fans love.
