A new Joy Division box set called Eternal will be released on Sept. 25. It’s being billed as the band’s first official collection of live concert recordings. The set spans 14 CDs with 192 tracks from 16 live shows, including the band’s final concert in 1980. It also includes two DVDs with about two and a half hours of live footage. A live version of “Transmission,” recorded in Paris in December 1979, is available now. Joy Division were active from 1976 to 1980 and released two albums. Their Unknown Pleasures cover became an iconic image in alternative music. The band ended after frontman Ian Curtis died at 23 in 1980. Guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris went on to form New Order with keyboardist Gillian Gilbert. Joy Division and New Order will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the 2026 class.
