Dayseeker Delivers Cathartic Performance at Sold-Out Starland Ballroom

Words & Photos by Bri Skriloff

The energy inside Starland Ballroom was already hitting a fever pitch long before Dayseeker even stepped onto the stage, which was fueled by solid opening sets from Northlane, Wind Walkers, and Sace6. By the time the headliners emerged, the room was a restless sea ready to explode.

The band didn’t waste any time, diving straight into “Pale Moonlight” and “Shapeshift.” It’s a hell of an opening combo crushing weight mixed with that signature atmospheric wash that defines their sound. When they hit “Dreamstate” and “Burial Plot,” the crowd took over, turning the venue into a giant choir.

Rory Rodriguez is a force on stage. He commands the room not with ego, but with a raw vulnerability that’s hard to look away from. At his lead, the room transformed into a wall of lights and voices, creating those rare, goosebump-inducing moments where the barrier between the band and the fans just disappears.

The emotional peak came mid-set with “Homesick.” Rodriguez took a moment to speak candidly about the loss of his father, a heavy confession that gave the performance an entirely different level of gravity.

The band briefly cleared the stage before Rodriguez returned alone, sitting at the piano for “Ghost of You.” The shift was jarring in the best way possible, going from chaotic energy to a room so quiet you could hear a pin drop. It was easily the most intimate moment of the night, proving the band doesn’t need high volume to hold an audience captive.

Of course, the peace didn’t last. The set cranked back up, reigniting the mosh pit and leading into a high-octane performance of “Sleeptalk.” After another brief exit, the crowd in Sayreville made it clear they weren’t done yet, chanting until the band returned for the encore.

They closed the night with “Neon Grave,” a fittingly massive finale that brought the house down one last time. As the feedback faded, Rodriguez kept it simple: “Thank you for tonight.” In a room where grief and resilience collided for a few hours, those words carried a lot of weight. Dayseeker didn’t just play a set; they invited the crowd into the story, and nobody left the room the same way they entered.
