Emily Haines pays tribute to Metric’s “chariot” on her introspective new album, ‘Romanticize the Dive’.

Emily Haines and Metric are back with their new album, *Romanticize the Dive*, which is now available. This marks the band’s 10th studio album, and it has inspired Haines to reflect on their journey together. The same four members—Haines, guitarist Jimmy Shaw, drummer Joules Scott-Key, and bassist Joshua Winstead—have been creating music since the beginning.

In the song “Loyal,” Haines uses a chariot as a metaphor for the band’s strong connection. She explains, “The chariot cannot be reduced to its individual parts. It is only itself when it’s all assembled. A wheel is not a chariot.” The album wraps up with “Leave You on a High,” a song that serves as a hopeful closing note. Haines shares, “We don’t know if we’ll make another record, right? If this was the last statement … let’s make this something that would feel like it encapsulates what we tried to do, and I feel really happy that we achieved that.” She adds that she is proud of the music and lyrics, regardless of what comes next.

In June, Metric will kick off a U.S. tour with fellow Canadian bands Broken Social Scene and Stars. Fans can look forward to an exciting summer filled with great music and performances.
