The Smashing Pumpkins are hitting the road to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their iconic album, *Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness*. The tour, named The Rats in a Cage tour after a lyric from “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” will start on September 30 in Columbus, Ohio, and wrap up on November 12 in Los Angeles.
Each concert will feature two sets. The first set will showcase a full performance of *Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness*, while the second set will include hits from the band’s extensive four-decade career. Frontman Billy Corgan expressed excitement about the tour, saying, “Staging a Mellon Collie-themed show is something we’ve discussed for over a decade, and finally the stars have aligned.”
Presales for tickets begin on Tuesday at 10 a.m. local time, with general sales starting on Thursday at the same time. For more details on dates and ticket information, fans can visit SmashingPumpkins.com.
*Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness* is the band’s third album and features popular singles like “Bullet with Butterfly Wings,” “1979,” “Tonight, Tonight,” and “Zero.” The album has been certified Diamond by the RIAA, meaning it has sold over 10 million copies. The band teased the tour with a livestreamed concert that served as a “funeral” for Corgan’s “Zero” character.
