This Day in Top 40 History: May 11

May 11 has been a significant day in the Top 40 music scene. Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake both enjoyed successful tours and major hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Other artists like Lady Gaga, The Chainsmokers, and The Weeknd also performed on tour.

This date is linked to many important songs and performances. In 1999, Ricky Martin released his first English album, which soared to No. 2 on the U.K. Albums chart and No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It included two Top Five singles, including the chart-topping hit “Livin’ la Vida Loca.” In 2013, Rihanna and Mikky Ekko’s song “Stay” climbed from No. 6 to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” moved from No. 7 to No. 5.

In 2016, Selena Gomez’s “Good for You” received platinum certification. Two years later, Arctic Monkeys released their sixth album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, which featured hits like “Four Out of Five.” This album reached the Top 10 in several regions, hitting No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 8 in the U.S. In 2019, Taylor Swift’s “ME!” featuring Brendon Urie jumped from No. 100 to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2024, Justin Timberlake performed at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which grossed over $191 million. That same day, Taylor Swift was in Paris for her Eras tour, which has made over $2 billion in ticket sales.

May 11 has also seen cultural milestones. In 1997, Trace Adkins married Rhonda Forlaw in Nashville, though they later divorced. In 1999, Sabrina Carpenter was born in Pennsylvania and has since won two GRAMMYs and achieved five Top 40 records.
