May 29 is an important date in pop music history, marked by hit songs, cultural moments, and industry changes. This day has shaped the pop music scene with memorable tracks and key events.

In 1987, LL Cool J released “Bigger and Deffer,” which climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album featured hit singles that made it into the Top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Fast forward to 1993, Janet Jackson’s song hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking her third consecutive and sixth overall No. 1 hit, showcasing her shift to a smoother R&B sound.

In 2015, Florence + the Machine launched their third album, “How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful,” which earned five GRAMMY nominations and became their first No. 1 record on the Billboard 200. The album also reached No. 1 in the U.K. and produced two Top 40 singles. In 2020, Lady Gaga released “Chromatica,” which topped charts in both the U.K. and the U.S., featuring the hit “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande. The following year, Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the only artist to have her first three singles debut in the top 10.

May 29 also holds cultural significance. In 1942, Bing Crosby recorded the best-selling single of all time. The fourth annual GRAMMY Awards took place in 1962, with Judy Garland winning Album of the Year. Melanie “Mel B” Brown, a member of the Spice Girls, was born in 1975. Duran Duran’s album “Rio” peaked at No. 2 in 1982, and in 1989, Elvis Presley’s first grandchild, Riley Keough, was born.
