Could Metallica be heading for a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere? According to Lars Ulrich, it’s a possibility. He mentioned that while there’s “nothing to confirm,” the band really loves the venue. Metallica’s management and production team have already visited the Sphere to check it out, but no official plans have been made yet. If they do decide to do a residency, Ulrich said it wouldn’t happen until after their 2026 tour wraps up.
Ulrich shared his excitement about the Sphere, saying, “I wanted to see it for myself before I saw it on YouTube or read about it.” He was impressed, stating, “I was completely blown away, and felt that was the beginning of another chapter in live performances.”
In addition to the residency talk, Ulrich was also asked about the chance of Metallica performing at the Super Bowl halftime show. The next Super Bowl is set for February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which is close to where Metallica started. He responded with an enthusiastic, “F— yeah, of course we would.”
Ulrich believes that playing a hometown show during the Super Bowl would be a dream come true and a perfect fit for the band. However, he noted that they haven’t been offered the gig yet. He added, “As someone who’s represented San Francisco all over the world, that part of it is the right fit. Ultimately, it’s not our decision.”
The last Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium was in 2016, and many fans hoped for a Metallica performance, but the halftime show featured Coldplay, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, and Mark Ronson.
