The Philadelphia area music scene is buzzing with exciting events from August 8-10. Lisa Lisa, born Lisa Velez, will hit the stage for her 40th anniversary tour. Although she won’t be with her original band, Cult Jam, she’ll perform classic hits like “I Wonder If I Take You Home” and “All Cried Out.” Joining her are eight other acts, including Exposé, Color Me Badd, the Jets, Montell Jordan, Sugar Hill Gang, Tag Team, J.J. Fad, and Candyman.
On Friday, don’t miss Dean Schlabowske, who will team up with Jon Langford in the Waco Brothers.
In Atlantic City, former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth will perform on Friday night. Low Cut Connie will also take the stage at the smaller Sound Waves venue in the same casino.
Saturday offers a great lineup. The Avett Brothers, fresh off their Broadway success with the musical “Swept Away,” will perform at the Etess Arena. The Black Keys will also be in town, and for those looking for an after-party, Gordo will be spinning tunes.
Meanwhile, a weekend festival will feature 10 acts on two stages along a loop from Lancaster Avenue to Suburban Square. Bands like the Record Company, Nicole Atkins, Suzanne Sheer, and Nik Greeley & the Operators will be performing.
Katy Perry will bring “The Lifetimes Tour” to South Philly on Saturday, August 9. The former American Idol host is touring in support of her highly praised album, “143.” Early performances show Perry as a “half-human, half-machine battling an AI archvillain.”
Get ready for a weekend full of music and fun!
