Billie Eilish and Kanye West are slated to headline the 2022 Coachella festival on Saturday and Sunday night, respectively. The news was first reported by Variety.
Swedish House Mafia are also on the bill, although it is unclear whether they are the festival’s third headliner — the traditional ‘throwback’ slot for the reunion of a more veteran artist.
Variety also pointed out that West headlined the festival in 2011 and Eilish had a monumental performance in 2019. Swedish House Mafia previously performed at Coachella in 2012.
The festival, which is already sold out, is scheduled to take place over the weekends of April 15-17 and April 22-24, 2022, at the Empire Polo Ground in Indio, California. However, as Variety noted, the Omicron surge puts dates in the air as many are wondering whether the festival will take place in April, or be moved — for a fifth time — to a later date.
Regardless of whether or not the festival goes off according to plan, it’s been an exciting time for Eilish. Last month, she unveiled a delightful acoustic performance of her song “Billie Bossa Nova” on Monday (December 20). The visual was directed by Philip Andelman for Gucci.
In the clip, Billie is joined by FINNEAS as she runs through the bossa nova-infused cut. The track serves as a genre curveball on Eilish’s sophomore album, Happier Than Ever, which also contains singles “My Future,” “Therefore I Am,” “Your Power,” “Lost Cause,” “NDA,” “Happier Than Ever,” and “Male Fantasy.”
Earlier last month, Eilish joined the club of Saturday Night Live hosts to also double as the night’s musical act on their own episode. The singer appeared on the late-night show on December 11 to make her hosting debut and topped the night off with performances of “Happier Than Ever” and “Male Fantasy.”
Over 47 seasons, Saturday Night Live has only ever had 35 musicians appear as both host and musical guest in the same episode. Eilish joins the likes of Harry Styles, Nick Jonas, Paul Simon, Dolly Parton, Britney Spears, and more.
