Clarence Clemons’ Son Sued for Cannabis Brand Named After His Father

Clarence Clemons, the late E Street Band saxophonist, is at the center of a lawsuit involving a cannabis brand named after him that’s being sold by one of his sons.

Per Billboard, Nick Clemons is being sued by the trust that’s in charge of the saxophonist’s various assets for the sale of various products using Clarence’s name/likeness including a cannabis brand called Big Man Blazed Baked Goods. Other “Big Man” items include the beer called Big Man’s Brew. Both brands are owned by Big Man’s West LLC, which was established in 2017.

Billboard notes a federal order has been filed against Nick and Big Man’s West LLC, but Nick never responded to it. U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp is holding the company in contempt of court and would issue a $250/a day fine while Nick and Big Man’s West LLC “continued to flout the court’s authority.”

What makes the lawsuit confusing is the fact that Nick is being sued by the trust of which he is one of four beneficiaries. Nick told Billboard the lawsuit is “frivolous” and that he “totally disregarded it.” Billboard added, “He said he was a part owner of the trust entity and that you ‘cannot sue yourself.’ He said he was ‘not even considering’ complying with the order, but might file a response on Friday.
