Josh Klinghoffer discusses the mild disrespect of Red Hot Chili Peppers ignoring the music he created with the band.

Josh Klinghoffer has opened up about the Red Hot Chili Peppers not often playing songs from the albums he worked on with them. Klinghoffer joined the band in 2011, stepping in for John Frusciante, who had been with the group since 1988. Frusciante is known for his work on classic albums like 1991’s “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” and 1999’s “Californication.” Klinghoffer stayed with the band until 2019, when Frusciante returned. He contributed to the albums “I’m With You” in 2011 and “The Getaway” in 2016.

In a recent interview, Klinghoffer was asked if it bothered him that the band seems to overlook his albums. He responded, “Not really.” He explained that it might be how Frusciante views the band when he’s not part of it. Klinghoffer noted that the band has plenty of music and doesn’t need to focus on the other records.

He added, “It’s unique to that band, you know? They have a strong presence in John.” Frusciante is often seen as the main guitarist, and his return seems to overshadow the albums Klinghoffer worked on. Frusciante himself acknowledged that there is a bit of “slight disrespect” towards the records that don’t feature him. He mentioned that those albums were significant at the time and were played around the world.

Klinghoffer is also working on his solo project, Pluralone, which will release a new album titled “A Drop in the Ocean” on June 12.
