If you’re passionate about gardening, don’t miss the chance to join the Pottstown Regional Home Garden Contest. Residents from various townships can take part in this community garden competition that encourages beautification, healthy living, and social connections. There are eight categories to enter, including Curb Appeal, Edible Garden, General Garden (small), General Garden (large), Outdoor Oasis, Pleasant Porch, Pocket Garden, and Youth Gardener.
Participation is open to residents from several communities, including Boyertown Borough, Colebrookdale Township, Douglass Township (both Berks and Montgomery County), East Coventry Township, Lower Pottsgrove Township, New Hanover Township, North Coventry Township, Pottstown Borough, Upper Pottsgrove Township, Washington Township, and West Pottsgrove Township.
Judging will focus on garden maintenance, plant condition, layout, variety, aesthetic appeal, and creativity. Adult winners can receive prizes ranging from $50 to $200, while youth winners can earn between $10 and $100. Judging will occur from July 12 to 26, with an awards luncheon set for September 27.
On July 18, there will also be a self-guided Regional Home Garden Tour from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will get garden descriptions and a map to explore during the six-hour window. Tickets for the tour are available online for $20 in advance, $25 on the day, and $10 for youth aged 16 and under.
Registration is free and open until June 19 at 5 p.m. You can sign up on the contest website or submit a paper form by mail or drop-off. Just make sure judges can access your garden for evaluation!
