James Taylor has announced a seven-date UK tour with his All-Star Band, to take place in January and February 2022. The run of shows begins on January 27 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, and concludes with two shows at London’s Hammersmith Eventim Apollo on February 4 and 5.
Presales for the shows start tomorrow at 10am local time and tickets will go on general sale at 9am this coming Friday, July 16. The great singer-songwriter last played in the UK in the summer of 2018, with shows around the UK and Ireland in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Dublin, and Cardiff, as well as his appearance at Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time Hyde Park in London. There he shared the bill with Bonnie Raitt and the headlining Paul Simon.
In March, Taylor recently won his sixth Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for American Standard, his collection of covers from the Great American Songbook. In early June, he performed Garth Brooks’ “The River” in tribute to the country superstar, as Brooks was recognized at the Kennedy Center Honors 2021.
On July 29, Taylor and Jackson Browne will begin their rescheduled co-headlining tour, which was originally due to take place in the summer of 2020. The itinerary runs throughout August and throughout the second half of October, concluding on November 1 in San Diego.
Via his website and social media, Taylor has invited fans to submit videos of themselves, in groups of five or more, singing his vintage 1976 song “Shower The People” for use during the tour. Videos chosen will be shown on the giant LED screen between the artist and his band during the shows. As his website advises: “please feel free to hold a flag of the place where you are from, or wear shirts/hats to identify your state, school, country, camp, hospital, place of work, favorite vacation spot, etc!”. The deadline for entries is tomorrow (13) at 6pm ET.
